Welcome to the Total Place Webpage
Total Place is a national initiative that looks at the belief that complex tough, multi-causal "wicked issues" have not been effectively tackled over the last decade. It is argued that: imposed government targets have caused conflict and undermined co-operation between organisations, quangos set up to tackle single issues have been expensive and made little impact, national programmes have not been flexible enough to address local characteristics, local and central government are providing overlapping services, and don’t communicate effectively with each other, wasting resources and confusing service users.
Total Place is a response to this analysis. It looks to address “wicked issues” by encouraging local partners to work together, develop a shared analysis of the problems they face, critically examine the services they provide, and rethink how they interact in order to better use the resources they control.
