Basildon Local Strategic Partnership

Basildon Local Strategic Partnership aims to improve the quality of life and deliver better local services for Basildon residents.  The Sustainable Community Strategy for Basildon identifies the Districts vision as: -

“To make Basildon District a fair and inclusive place, where the communityhave a healthy, safe place to live and work and to improve the quality of lifenow and for future generations”

This cross-agency, umbrella partnership, incorporates members from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors to work together to deal with problems and make improvements, specific to the local area.

Providing a wider range of expertise means that Basildon Local Strategic Partnerships are well placed to develop innovative strategies that can better assess and focus on the needs of the community.

The long-term priorities for the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) are set out below. They are those important issues that can best be addressed by partnership working rather than by a single organisation working alone. By focusing on these things we will make best progress towards achieving our strategic objectives for the district.

  • Developing a Prosperous Economy
  • Promoting Community Safety
  • Providing Homes for the Future
  • Maintaining a Clean & Sustainable Environment
  • Improving Health & Wellbeing
  • Raising Educational Achievement
  • Promoting Inclusive Communities
  • Develop an effective transport system

Essex Strategy and LAA objectives

The Essex Strategy

The Essex Strategy is the 10 year strategic vision for the county and is implemented alongside 12 Sustainable Communities Strategies (SCS) which are unique to each District.  However issues exist which are common to all, identified as the 'Wicked Issues' facing the County through the 2009 Essex Strategy Review process, these are: -

  1. Reducing Health Inequalities
  2. Safeguarding the Most Vulnerable
  3. Improving Educational Attainment and Skills
  4. Improving Community Safety
  5. Strengthening Communities
  6. Promoting Sustainable Economic Growth
  7. Mitigating Climate Change

The Local Area Agreement

The Essex Local Area Agreement (LAA) is an agreement with the Government and the county’s Local Strategic Partnerships, the voluntary sector and other publicservices including Health and the Police. The agreement sets outcomes andtargets to be achieved over a three-year period.  Essentially it is the delivery arm of the Essex Strategy with the overarching vision: -

“To support Essex people to liberate their potential to enjoy the best quality of life in Britain”

To achieve this relies on delivery at a local level.  Basildon LSP has therefore identified the LAA Performance Indicators which it will 'have regard to'.
