Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership

The purpose of the partnership is to To improve rail patronage on branch lines as a viable alternative mode of public transport. Improved quality of service and facilities, and keeping branch lines open, will encourage the community to use railways rather than the private car and so reduce congestion and deliver environmental benefits. It will also foster community spirit through participation at the local level. Rail operators are supportive, but in kind rather with funding. Volunteers improve rail facilities such as stations and their surrounds, and local communities run the Adopt-A-Station Scheme, to put life back into stations with new community and some retail uses such as coffee shops, bicycle hire, entertainment and events.
