The Sustainable Community Strategy (Maldon)

The Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) pulls together the key issues that need to be addressed to improve the quality of life for the people who live and work in the District. It includes a long term vision and priorities for delivering change and forms an overarching strategy for the District. It has links to all the main strategies that cover the district.

The Renewed Sustainable Community Strategy, which sets out the priority issues for the District 2010-26, has now been approved by the LSP Steering group (see picture below) and formally endorsed by the District Council. An action plan is being developed to help deliver the Strategy.

Our Vision and the Priority Issues for 2010-26are as follows:

“A sustainable coastal district, with a rich and distinct rural identity and heritage, underpinned by a vibrant local economy and active community life”.

  • Health Inequalities
  • Older People
  • Prosperity (including support for business, skills and education)
  • Accessibility
  • Affordable Housing
  • Supporting Communities
  • National and Built Heritage

The Sustainable Community Strategy is renewed every three years. This time the Strategy’s renewal has coincided with a change of Government and changes to the structure and funding of the Public Sector who, as key service deliverers and employers, are important players in the District. In a time of rapid change it is imperative to reassess the priority issues for the District and to ensure that those who will be responsible for delivery or overseeing the delivery of services are aware of what is important to the people who live and work here.
