Organisation: Colchester Borough Homes

Colchester Borough Homes was set up in August 2003 by Colchester Borough Council. We are 100% owned by the council. We exist to provide tenancy management and maintenance services for council homes.

Colchester Borough Homes is what is called an Arms Length Management Organisation or ALMO. The incentive for local authorities to set up an ALMO is that it could unlock extra funding for the Decent Homes programme. Just to give you an example of how the system works; in 2004 they were given a "good" rating by the Audit Commission. This unlocked an extra thirteen and half million pounds for the Decent Homes programme in Colchester.
